Location: Chepstow
Hazrem Environmental was commissioned by a local architect to carry out some investigative works at a manufacturing facility in Chepstow. The company was intending to build an extension to their existing facility, and whilst the engineer was carrying out foundation design tests they uncovered some hydrocarbon contamination. Further intrusive investigations by Hazrem Environmental discovered buried drums and broken asbestos cement sheets (chrysotile asbestos). This contamination was caused by previous site owners originating from the 1960s, and was found to be within both the intended extension area and at other points throughout the site. After carrying out a site specific risk assessment it was concluded that the only threat was to human health i.e. construction workers and future employees that would work within the extension area . In order to deal with the site Hazrem recommended and supervised the following activities: -
